The Old Mac v/s PC Debate Starts All Over Again

[ Monday, October 5, 2009 | 0 comments ]

My first post on Mac v/s Windows was way back in 2005. I was a latecomer in the old debate - if you are in orkut ( which i don't use anymore), you can go through  lively debates among Mac aficionados and Windows loyalist in a community i moderated called Mac v/s Windows. So much have change from then and now-  Microsoft has already released  Vista and it's set to release another OS soon( Windows 7) and Apple too have upgraded its OS ( far more frequent than MS) and the latest Apple's Snow Leopard is the reason for the new but old debate; except this time the fight is no longer about consumer market but businesses- Microsoft territory.

Going by what PC World (they also have a sister publication called Mac World) says andwhat silicon.com published recently, adoption of Mac OS is still out of question. The reasons though have changed. IT heads or more commonly known as Chief Technology Officers are not ready to shell out extra cash in downturn. And that seems to be the only reason keeping them from moving to Mac now. Follow the article here http://software.silicon.com/os/0,39024651,39554596,00.htm

It works with any Java enabled phones and very well at that. The release of Beta 5 has been rather full of surprise. I will take you through the nitpicks of the Opera mini 5 Beta.

Will The Real iPhone Killer Please Stand Up?

[ Sunday, September 20, 2009 | 0 comments ]

How many times have we heard the ever nauseating term 'iPhone killer' before the release of almost every high end phones, post the release Apple's iPhone? And how many times have they disappeared without a trace? But the real question is, are u ready for another? To use an oft repeated line-pun intended; spare me the horror! I'm waiting for the day when every phone maker worth its salt stop piggybacking on iPhone. A serious contender would and i think could do without it. Until that day, here are the long list of supposed iPhone killers who either flopped or ended scooping iPhone's backside altogether.

Push Mail: Nokia set to push you further

[ Tuesday, September 8, 2009 | 0 comments ]

Words just came in today that Nokia is planning to push mail service on its E-and N series devices. The new push mails service, aptly named Nokia Messaging will fight neck to neck in the push mail marketand will hope challenge Blackberry's supremacy in the Smartphones arena. The Nokia Messaging service will allow for push email notification to Symbian S60 phones using their phone client. The service will support  Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Nokia's own Ovi mail, or custom IMAP/POP servers. The service will serve push email notification for all configured email accounts.

Though Nokia is still the no.1 manufacturer of Cellphones, including smartphones, it has seen its marketshare considerably reduced by latecomers Apple and Research In Motion (the maker of Blackberry) specially in the smartphone market. It had partly to do with Nokia running out of ideas the past few years. Symbian S60 haven't seen a succesor for almost 4 yrs now. Compounded by constant hanging and depleting user experience. Nokia has seen power users leave in droves. Let's hope this new development help Nokia get a grip of itself again.
