Is Mac As Secure As Made Out To Be??

Don’t get me wrong- I’m not an Apple baiter!. Infact, I love their gadgets. So, It's been decades since the first Operating System for both was released.Apple carved out a niche market for itself when it actually was a two-way race between their Mac and Windows OS. Apple found its users (though they did struggle for a while) by bundling it's OS with it's own hardware thereby making Mac's usage a painfree experience even if it is restrictive. The real point here is being no.1 doesn't mean you're the best:certainly, not in this case. From my experience, after using both Macintosh and Windows- I felt that Windows is a poor competition to Mac in terms of user experience. Mac PC is the most stable computer I’ve ever laid my hands on. Using a Mac has its own advantages and of course, disadvantages.

On my interaction with other Mac users (one crazy guy had 5 G5 Macbooks) I find that every single one of them love their Mac which in case of Windows will be a mild 'satisfied users'(or frustrated lots).Almost every Mac users feels that Mac is more secure than Windows which I believed was true. Not anymore!! Not with what's happening with the dear beloved Korean Apple store being hacked, the ‘iworm' and the newly surfacing then unknown security loopholes

At least not me- I don’t know about others.

On Feb. 22, a Sweden-based Mac freak set up his Mac Mini as a server and challenged hackers to break through the computer's security and gain root control, which would allow the attacker to take charge of the computer and delete files and folders or install applications or whatever. The challenge was called "rm-my-mac" .Whatever happened to the challenge is something I’ll talk later- but this act goes to show how confident an owner is of his Mac. Imagine a Windows user doing the same thing- I can't see it happening even ten thousand leap years from now. Well, coming back o the contest – it was won by in matter of hours. A hacker with the nick 'Gwerdna' managed to hack the famed Mac OS X in just six hours.

Just what does these whole things means. I have a theory that hackers or whoever they are wouldn't want to do anything with an OS with just about 4% of worldwide usage. If I was a hacker I would rather write codes and look for loopholes in Windows where I know it'll affect the whole population(well almost) rather than break my head over something that'll give me less returns. This one basic factor explains why Mac has less or no known security loopholes as Windows. But with the increase of users adopting Mac, Apple cannot afford to rest on its laurel (rightfully deserved or not). Agreed, Apple has a near perfect Computer in Mac. As the number of Mac users increases so will be the threat. The number of a Mac unit sold will be proportional to the numbers of loopholes discovered (not exactly of course). The ‘moral of the story’ is Mac isn't as secure as it is made out to be. It isn't that there weren’t any loopholes- it's that no one was interested then. Not now!! Not anymore!!
